About Estie Pieterse (Flynn)

Professional Nurse & Wound Care Specialist

With over 36 years of experience in the healthcare industry, I have dedicated my life to helping people heal — not only physically, but emotionally too. My journey in nursing began in 1989, and over the years I have worked across many hospital departments, gaining deep insight into the full spectrum of patient care.

My career path led me to the Thoracic Theatre at Unitas Netcare Hospital, where I refined my skills in surgical and post-operative care. Before that, I began my career at Van Rooyen Pharmacy in Meyerton, where I discovered the importance of understanding both the medical and pharmaceutical aspects of treatment. That dual foundation shaped the way I approach healthcare — with compassion, precision, and a focus on holistic recovery.

Over time, my passion naturally evolved toward wound care, where I found a deep sense of purpose. Every wound is unique, and I believe that successful healing begins with the right assessment, meticulous cleaning, and proper aftercare. My goal is always to help patients achieve the best possible healing outcome while minimizing scarring and restoring comfort and confidence.

At my practice and wound care clinic, each patient receives personalized, one-on-one care in a calm and supportive environment. I believe that healing is more than a medical process — it’s a partnership built on trust, compassion, and expertise.

We all carry scars, but with the right care, they don’t have to tell our story.

Patient-Focused, Evidence-Based Wound Care

Complex and nonhealing wounds are not only painful – they can be extremely dangerous. Whether a wound is the result of a traumatic injury, an infection, a disease, or another condition, it requires timely and effective care, particularly when amputation is a possibility.

Our team is actively engaged in discoveries to expand effective treatment solutions and provide the best possible care to all patients. Many of the latest options to heal wounds are available only at Volnero Health.

We use the newest technologies and therapies available – some of which were evaluated and introduced by our very own nurse – to heal wounds, salvage limbs, improve function, and reduce scarring.

Conditions We Treat With Wound Care

We offer evaluation and personalized care for a variety of complex and nonhealing wounds, such as:

  • Arterial and venous wounds
  • Burns
  • Complex abdominal wounds
  • Diabetic ulcers
  • Enterocutaneous fistulas
  • Extremity wounds with edema or lymphedema
  • Gangrene or tissue death
  • Nonhealing surgical wounds
  • Pressure injuries
  • Radiation wounds
  • Skin tears
  • Surgical incisions
  • Traumatic injury wounds
  • Venous ulcers
  • Wounds occurring after cancer treatments

Symptoms of Nonhealing Wounds

Patients should contact us if they have a wound that:

  • Has not healed or is healing very slowly
  • Continues to bleed, seep, or drain
  • Is infected, or the area around it is red, warm, swollen, or painful

Advanced Treatments for All Types of Wounds

We first pinpoint the reasons a wound is not healing. We then create an optimized treatment plan based on the overall health care needs of each patient.

We provide the full spectrum of care and support for every patient using a comprehensive range of interventions and tests, such as:

  • Specialized dressings and therapies, such as gels, collagen, foams, growth factors, and other materials that promote wound healing

An Innovative Approach to Preventing Amputations

For complex wounds, our team integrates a variety of therapies into a well-balanced treatment program. We make every effort to avoid amputations by exploring solutions to save a leg, foot, finger, or other extremity – even when patients have been told elsewhere that amputation is the only option.

In addition to the treatment mentioned above, our patients also have access to:

  • Negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT)
  • Specialty support surfaces

Support Services

Effective at-home care can have a significant impact on wound recovery. As a result, personalized support and patient education are key parts of the support our team provides. Our support services include:

  • Convenient access to world-class care for any health issue affecting a wound
  • Exceptional patient education on topics such as how proper nutrition encourages healing and prevents wounds from recurring
  • Individualized rehabilitation support
  • Recommendations for specialized equipment, such as beds
